The Passion of the Lord | St. Andrew Church | 3:00 PM On Good Friday Mass is not celebrated. The service of the Lord’s Passion is composed of three parts: the Liturgy of the Word, the Veneration of the Cross, and distribution of Holy Communion from the hosts that have been previously consecrated. Good Friday is a day of prayer, fasting, and reflection, especially between noon and 3 PM, the hours traditionally associated with Jesus’ death. What is the Veneration of the Cross? During the Passion, a large crucifix is unveiled symbolizing the moment of Christ's crucifixion. To venerate the cross, parishioners approach the cross to show their reverence, often through gestures such as kneeling, kissing, or bowing before it. This act is a physical expression of gratitude and love for Christ's sacrifice.
